Building Resilient Homes
for a Safer Future

Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face unique challenges due to the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters. To combat these challenges, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), in collaboration with the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) and the Caribbean Association of National Training Authorities (CANTA), has launched the Code of Practice for the Construction of Houses in the Caribbean Region Project (CRCP 10:2023). This training is designed to standardise housing construction practices across the Caribbean, aiming to safeguard homes and livelihoods from future disasters.

Strengthening Construction Through
Education and Training

A training program will empower artisans, foremen, and builders with the skills necessary to meet these newly established construction standards, ensuring homes across the region.

A Collaborative Effort
for a Resilient Caribbean

Funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), USAID, the Government of Norway, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Caribbean Climate Resilience Initiative (CCRI) project and the Building the Resilience of the CARIFORUM States to Disaster Risks and Climate Change Impacts project, financed by the European Development Fund, the CRCP 10 project unites stakeholders from governments, training authorities, and local builders to create a resilient housing sector.

With the support of international and regional bodies, the project is positioned to not only improve construction standards but also to transform the future of housing in the Caribbean. This program is a vital step in protecting communities and ensuring a safer future for all.
